The Barth Syndrome Foundation's Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the mission and purpose of the organization. Its duties include participation in strategic planning and making policy decisions, then securing the financing of them and the monitoring of their execution. Members must be willing to attend the requisite meetings, follow through on commitments, and participate fully in the decision-making process. The board also presents the organization´s image to the community and solicits its support in achieving BSF´s goals. Members of the BSF Board of Directors serve three-year terms. Michelle Florez
Michelle is a Product Manager for Ethoca, an award-winning provider of collaboration-based intelligence and technology solutions that empower businesses around the world to fight fraud, prevent disputes and improve the customer experience. She has been in the financial technology industry for over nine years. Previously, Michelle worked at a leading Texas financial institution in the Bank Secrecy Act & Anti Money Laundering and the fraud detection departments for fifteen years.
Michelle is also the mother of three wonderful children, Michael (born in 2002), Matthew (born in 2006) and Angelina (born in 2014). When Michael was first diagnosed with Barth syndrome as a one-year old, Michelle joined the Barth Syndrome Foundation community. In 2009, Michael passed away at the age of seven from complications of the disease. Michelle, her husband, Angelo, and their children live in Buda, Texas near Austin and continue to be very involved in the foundation.
